Frequently Asked Questions
I'm ready to go! What's the next step? Check out the GO section on this website. First, fill out a 5 Minute Interview. One of our missions mobilizers will review your submitted form and contact you to help in every way they can. You can also call right now to speak with a mobilizer at 1-800-323-0428. Who determines where I'll be placed? We do - together. We get input from you, we look at your strengths and giftings, and we get input from the field so that we can find a good match. We want you to serve where your strengths and giftings will be best used and where you will be most fulfilled as you follow God's plan for your life. Do I have to be a college, Bible college, or seminary graduate? No. While we see the importance and value of higher education, we do not make it a requirement. In fact, to go for more than six months, all you need is a high school diploma. You will receive training in Illinois at our Elgin Ministry Center as well as on a continual basis with your team. We will do our best to make sure you are equipped for your ministry needs. It depends - the location where you serve determines cost of living... which determines how much money you'll need to raise. So, if you have a ministry in mind that you'd like to be part of, Contact us and we will walk you through all the details. We believe that God provides through the community of believers. So, you will be raising your funds by asking your home church, your friends, and your family to support you. You mean I have to raise my own support? Yes. You have to raise your own support, but it does not go exclusively towards ministry needs. You will also receive a certain amount of money to use at your own discretion. We put significant trust in you as you live among those you serve.
Is submitting an application a commitment to go with IT? An application means that you are taking the next step in the process, but it does not mean that you are fully committed. However, the application fee is non-refundable. In order to establish a financial account with International Teams, you must be accepted as a missionary. In order to raise support, you must have a financial account to send money to. So, this is completely determined by how your fund raising will go. What you need to keep in mind is that you will be required to attend ACCESS training before your departure. Because ACCESS is offered at specific times during the year, we recommend that you plan the timing of your application accordingly so you can raise support and then come to training. Yes. We want you to be continually learning, so training is just the first step in a life-long learning experience. ACCESS is our pre-field training program. The length of this program is determined by the length of your commitment on the field. Contact us for dates and information. How long from application to acceptance We want to process your application as quickly as possible. However, there are some steps in the process that require help from others, so it could be as fast as two weeks... or as long as two months. For instance a general application process includes obtaining references, results from a psychological evalutation, and other information. A team meets weekly to review applications, so as soon as all the necessary information is gathered, they can process yours. What if I have more questions? Then you're not alone! No one has it all together. We want to help you as much as possible. If you have any more questions please call (847.429.0900) or email us.
