President Resigns to Join International Teams
Elgin, IL--On August 31, 2005, Dr. David E. Schroeder, president of Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary resigned his presidency to accept a position with International Teams USA.
International Teams USA is a nondenominational, evangelical Christian ministry that works closely with its International Teams partner nations: The Philippines, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia. Numerous other missionary sending countries are in the process of joining the International Teams (IT) partnership. Currently, 32 nations are sending these missionaries who comprise IT's 110 multi-cultural teams that minister in 57 different countries.
While David and his wife Betzi worked at Nyack, the student population for the college and seminary has more than tripled. Campuses are located in Nyack, NY; New York City; Albany, NY; Washington, DC; Miami Valley, OH; and on extension sites in Puerto Rico and the Ukraine. He is credited with establishing the Manhattan campus, which began offering full degree programs in 1997, and today serves some 1,200 students.
Concerning the Schroeders' resignation, Board of Trustees Chairman for the Nyack College Corporation, Ronald Eastman, wrote: "We, the Board of Trustees, gratefully acknowledge the work of David and Betzi in leading Nyack College over the last 12 years and Alliance Theological Seminary for the past five years. The presidency of Dr. Schroeder will be recalled by historians as one of the strongest in the history of the institution."
In his letter informing the Nyack community, David Schroeder wrote:
Our years at Nyack have been incredibly formative for us. Our understanding and appreciation of worship, diversity, and global mission have grown so much, and our love for so many hundreds of students, faculty and staff members has been so enriching. We will leave Nyack as very satisfied, happy, grateful people.
We always dreamed that the last phase of our career might be in international missions and that is how God is calling us.
David and Betzi will use the IT USA office in Elgin, IL, as their home base; much of their work, however, will take place overseas as they assist IT's teams around the world. The Schroeders' international focus on leadership development and following God's leading will extend what had already begun during their tenure at Nyack with the school in Ukraine, Puerto Rico, the Philippines and with many trips to help extend Christ's kingdom in India, China, Europe, Africa, South America, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and the Middle East.
